Chemotaxonomy and cytotoxicity of the liverwort Porella Viridissima ArchiMer
Métoyer, Benjamin; Lebouvier, Nicolas; Hnawia, Edouard; Thouvenot, Louis; Wang, Fengrui; Harinantenaina Rakotondraibe, Liva; Raharivelomanana, Phila; Asakawa, Yoshinori; Nour, Mohammed.
The first chemotaxonomic study based on volatile components of Porella viridissima (Mitt.) Grolle is reported. The GC-MS analysis of ether extract was performed; ten santalane and five pinguisane-type sesquiterpenes were identified together with perrottetianal A as major diterpene. Most of detected santalane-type sesquiterpenes are reported for the first time in liverwort. P. viridissima was found to belong to the chemotype III (pinguisane/sacculatane) and shared chemical similarities with P. navicularis. Perrotettianal A was isolated and has shown strong cytotoxicity against ovarian cancer.

Chemotypes and Biomarkers of Seven Species of New Caledonian Liverworts from the Bazzanioideae Subfamily ArchiMer
Metoyer, Benjamin; Lebouvier, Nicolas; Hnawia, Edouard; Herbette, Gaetan; Thouvenot, Louis; Asakawa, Yoshinori; Nour, Mohammed; Raharivelomanana, Phila.
Volatile components of seven species of the Bazzanioideae sub-family (Lepidoziaceae) native to New Caledonia, including three endemic species (Bazzania marginata, Acromastigum caledonicum and A. tenax), were analyzed by GC-FID-MS in order to index these plants to known or new chemotypes. Detected volatile constituents in studied species were constituted mainly by sesquiterpene, as well as diterpene compounds. All so-established compositions cannot successfully index some of them to known chemotypes but afforded the discovery of new chemotypes such as cuparane/fusicoccane. The major component of B. francana was isolated and characterized as a new zierane-type sesquiterpene called ziera-12(13), 10(14)-dien-5-ol (23). In addition, qualitative intraspecies...

Diversity of bryophytes in priority areas for conservation in the Atlantic forest of northeast Brazil Acta Botanica
Silva,Mércia Patrícia Pereira; Pôrto,Kátia Cavalcanti.
The northeastern Brazilian Atlantic forest is the region with the greatest diversity of bryophytes in the country. However, knowledge about bryophytes is irregularly distributed among Brazilian regions. Therefore, we aimed to contribute to knowledge about bryophytes on a regional scale in the northeastern Atlantic forest, to identify the centers of bryophyte diversity in that region, and to reiterate the importance and identify locations for which new protected areas should be created. We built a database of bryophytes in 23 locations of the region, based on a literature review and new floristic inventories. To identify the locations of greatest relevance to bryophyte conservation, we considered 1) total and endemic species richness, 2) phylogenetic...

Dominance of Paris-type morphology on mycothallus of Lunularia cruciata colonised by Glomus proliferum BJM
Fonseca,Henrique M.A.C.; Ferreira,Joana I.L.; Berbara,Ricardo L.L.; Zatorre,Natalia P..
Microscopic evidence confirms that L. cruciata hosting G. proliferum shows major anatomical traits (arbuscules, coils, arbusculate coils and vesicles) generally associated arbuscular mycorrhizal roots and the anatomical morphology of intra-thalli mycelium is predominantly of the Paris-type. Colonised L. cruciata showed a reduction of biomass when compared with axenic plants suggesting a drain of resources towards the fungus and depletion of nutrients required for optimum plant growth. The behaviour of mycothalli regarding available KH2PO4 indicates that the nutritional stress threshold for phosphorus (P) is above the residual amount of P already present in PhytagelTM and in plant inoculum. These raise the possibility that in certain circumstances the...
